This complex lithograph was done at The Artist’s Press in White River, where Kannemeyer has often worked. As usual, Kannemeyer does not shy away from controversy and here he presents racial stereotypes (the white baby with the black nanny) in order to make fun of and critique prevailing racial and colonial attitudes in South Africa.
The print demonstrates Kannemeyer’s exceptional design sensibility, his frequent use of text and his mastery of the lithograph technique in which colours are laid down in several layers.
