Priest

Makamu’s work portrays the African and Western belief systems in struggle with each other. The sculpture is of a priest or holy man from Western church. On his head of the priest is a star which in Tshivenḓa culture is referred to as a wandering star, and is connected to a person who is so ashamed by their actions in life that they face eternal darkness after death.
