Fish I

Traditionally, fish play an important role in the tradition and mythology of the Limpopo province. Fish iconography therefore appears often in the art stemming from the area. Animal depictions were one of the subjects Baloyi excelled in, which can be seen in these fish that which appear to be literally swimming through the air.

It is apparent from these works that Baloyi was very familiar with the way the fish moved through water and emulated these movements and motion into his sculptures.
