The exhibition Yakhal’Inkomo: The Bongi Dhlomo Collections explores the trans-disciplinary legacy of Winston Mankunku Ngozi’s 1968 jazz classic Yakhal’Inkomo  and the black creative expressions that were happened around the same time. Poets, singers, artists and writers all found symbolism in Yakhal’Inkomo

Join us as we screen episodes that form part of the 21 Icons Documentary series. Renowned black cultural icons such as author Miriam Tlali, Yakhal’Inkomo featured artist Mmakgabo Helen Sebidi and others share their stories as black artists living under apartheid’s oppressive regime.

The 21 Icons documentary series features an array of South Africans from various walks of life, reflecting on memories of growing up in one of the most diverse and unequal countries.

This is screening will be followed by a conversation with artist Mmakgabo Helen Sebidi and Gabi Ngcobo, Curatorial Director at the Javett-UP.
