Three exhibitions featuring works from the permanent collection are currently open to visitors at the Javett-UP. These include, All in a Day’s Eye: The Politics of Innocence in the Javett Art Collection, National Treasures: The Mapungubwe Gold Collection and the AngloGold Ashanti Barbier-Mueller Gold of Africa Collection.
The Javett Art Collection is a collection of histories recorded by artists in South Africa over time, in addition to being a collection of artworks. Themes include education, culture, architecture, the natural environment, representation, beauty, landscape, religion and politics to name just a few.
Our remaining two exhibitions celebrate Africa’s rich heritage of pre-colonial art and craftsmanship, with artefacts uncovered from the Mapungubwe site in Limpopo and through the Barbier-Mueller collection, from across Africa. Together, these exhibitions celebrate thousands of years of African creativity.
Two more exhibitions will be opening in March 2021, with details announced next month.
