Public Talk, Conservation as a Community Engagement Tool

Published 13 November 2023 in Reviews

Join us this Thursday for a public talk with Anya Dani, Director of Community Engagement and Inclusive Practice, UCLA/Getty Interdepartmental Program in the Conservation of Cultural Heritage. Dani will unpack art conservation and discuss the important role of community engagement in art conservation projects.

Drawing from examples of her work in the United States and Japan, she will explore how community engagement has been incorporated into the field of art conservation. Her talk will highlight the efforts of historically marginalized communities to guide conservation decision-making and participate hands-on, incorporating their own value systems.

Anya Dani is an objects conservator who works to preserve diverse collections and artefacts. She believes in putting communities first and bringing a culturally sensitive approach to collections care.  “Art and culture are essential to our society, and the preservation of cultural heritage enriches our lives,” she says.
