The Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria (Javett-UP) cordially invites you to the closing programme of (ARAC) to mark the conclusion of the exhibition's seven-month Javett-UP residency on Saturday, 02 March 2024.
The ARAC Closing Programme will feature NEWWORK24, a public engagement programme which forms part of a professional practice towards a graduate show and a collective publication as a conclusion of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Wits University. Fourth year Fine Arts students from Wits School of the Arts will partake in this day-long inter-discursive programme to celebrate the spirit of collective/self-publication and book arts in context of ARAC’s closing of their residency at the Javett-UP. The programme will be facilitated by ARAC member and Wits Lecture Rangoato Hlasane.
ARAC is an exhibition by a group of African scholars and practitioners of artistic and cultural education who have been collaborating, since 2015, to pursue a joint programme of research into arts educational practices in their respective localities. Operating in both formal and informal contexts across the African continent, their research is critically informed and grounded in historical analysis, particularly with respect to Africa’s colonial heritage. The exhibition has been on view at Javett-UP since August last year, and will close on 02 March 2024.
