The Javett-UP is thrilled to announce that bookings for December's Bokamoso Holiday Art Programme are now open. Take advantage of EARLY BIRD DISCOUNTS on WEEK PASSES!
From 9 to 13 December 2024, BOKAMOSO Holiday Art Programme invites your 7-15-year-olds on an artistic journey into South Africa’s fascinating mining history under theme Spectres of the Underground, which features in the latest Javett-UP's exhibition We, The Purple. Running from 09:00 to 13:00 daily, the 5-day programme will see participants dive into themed workshops that blend history, art, and adventure.
Day 1: Exhibition Tour, Treasure Hunt, and Drawing Workshop
Day 2: Mapungubwe Clay Sculpture Workshop
Day 3: Shadow Art Workshop
Days 4 & 5: Landscape Pinhole Photography Workshop
The week begins with a thrilling tour and treasure hunt in the Spectres of the Underground and Mapungubwe artifacts, sparking inspiration for a hands-on drawing session. On Day 2, kids will connect with Mapungubwe’s legacy by crafting clay sculptures inspired by ancient artifacts. Day 3 explores shadow art, using light and dark to illustrate the hidden underground world. The programme wraps up with a two-day Landscape Cyanotype Sun Print workshop, where participants will learn to magically capture the world around them, evoking hidden underground worlds or lost mining towns.
This event is made possible with the generous support of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives.
