The Javett
Art Centre at the University of Pretoria is hosting a Holiday Art Programme for
primary and high school learners interested in art, drawing and painting. This
exciting series of activities, hosted by South African Visual Artist, Kutlwano
Monyai, will be held from 13 to 15 December 2022. Each day will have two
sessions wherein the same activity for the day will be repeated for each slot.
This will allow participants to join the most convenient session for the day.

Holiday Art Programme Day 1:
Session 1: 09:00 – 12:00 (break 10:30

Day one of this programme will see our young
participants being led on a tour where they will be introduced to our five
exhibitions: Yakhal’ Inkomo: The Bongi
Dhlomo Collection, SCENORAMA, Buffer Zones, National Treasures: The
Mapungubwe Gold Collection and The AngloGold Ashanti Barbier Mueller Gold of
Africa Collection. After the tour,
participants will play a game called ‘remember the artwork’. This will be done
using mini printed art visuals from the exhibitions. We will end the day with a
drawing session in the gallery where participants will be taught different
types of sketching methods using pencils.

Day two includes a charcoal
drawing workshop followed by a mixed media painting session. For the charcoal
drawing workshop, participants
will select an artwork of their choice from the Yakhal’ Inkomo exhibition and replicate it in a monochromatic
style. For the second activity, participants will create their own
unique watercolour and mixed
media paintings. The mediums used for their mixed media artworks will
include teabags, coffee, salt and magazines and newspapers.

Day Three of the programme includes an acrylic
painting workshop where participants will have fun painting abstract and
innovative figures. Followed by a writing workshop which will be a short
paragraph about what inspired their artworks and explain what they had learnt
from the workshop.
