The Plant Laboratory is initiated under the experimental research platform Laboratory of Ideas and takes creative research further by exploring plants indigenous to our region and parts of the African continent. As part of this interactive and collaborative research process we invite guests to consider what an alternative, artistic, edible and indigenous plant garden could look like.
The Plant Lab will invite a variety of voices for a series of exchanges on topics such as: the industrialization of food systems, the migration of plants and crops, caring for the Earth and our bodies, holistic agricultural techniques and new collaborative forms of community interactions. These exchanges are aimed at assisting to create alternatives to industrial agriculture to relay the concept of sustainability as it relates to food production. This interactive research is a starting point for a series of artistic commissions, commissioned performative actions, conversations, educational workshops, film programmes, cooking sessions, and more.
We invite guests to interactive dialogues that will be made visible through the visual expression of ideas, dreams, and suggestions relating to the Plant Lab on our canvas wall. Together we will discuss what the future of plants, food, and being together may potentially look like as we navigate a post Covid-19 society and a future faced by climate change.
