The project was inspired by the need of a young mind's intervention into a historic collection. We have had a small group of young graduates working collaboratively on an exhibition of selected works from the SOUTH32 collection. The title is inspired by Deborah Bell's 1991 etching titled One is but the Shadow of the Other.
The project is interested in unfolding the continuous relationships of people, space and the possible tensions birthed when unlike\like things are put together. While cognisant of the stagnation of power dynamics expressed in the collection and current day-to-day experiences. The selection of works attempts to instead explore the nuances of the unseen forces that are not always available to touch but a conjured affect.
