Creative Education South Africa: School Excursions
The
Javett-UP is proud to partner with Creative Education South Africa (CESA) for
two programmes running from May – September. These programmes are Learners
Educational Support and Teacher’s Equip Programme.
For Learners Educational Support, we will be expecting about 500 learners from
marginalised communities on specific dates (please see below). These learners
range from Intermediate Phase to the Senior Phase. Learners get to engage with
the various exhibitions and artworks at the Javett-UP as a starting point to
unpack the CAPS Curriculum, elect content and unearth Historical moments.
For the Teacher’s Equip programme we will host a 200 teachers to further equip
them on how to work with learners after they have visited the Javett-UP.
Teachers will further engage in a post-workshop activity to be implemented in
school premises after learners’ visitation to the Javett-UP.
Both these programmes include an educational resource designed for both
learners and teachers. This will have content such as, and not limited to,
Javett-UP Exhibition activities; Using artworks as a starting point to elect
content; Visual Art Elements; and Design Principles.
Part of Javett-UP’s mandate is to bridge the arts educational gap in society
and the community. This includes inclusivity, engagements and connecting with
communities which do not have access or resources to arts education. As we, the
Javett-UP, centre ourselves as a living school, it is important to remember
this idea around access. This partnership with Creative Education South Africa,
allows Javett-UP to bridge that gap and allow for access, not only to its
exhibitions but it's content around the caps curriculum. In 5 months we hope to
have targeted 150 schools from marginalised communities. Which basically looks
at approximately 360 000 learners and 3 000 teachers who will
actively engage in this programme.
