Teacher of Marimba and multi-instrumentalist, Leon Leanaphuti Moloi, will be facilitating indigenous music workshops for all ages. Everyone is invited to join in this exciting activity! Moloi will provide historical information about the instruments, followed by a brief workshopping of the use of the instruments such as Uhadi and Makhoyane (bows) and Mchingo ( Reed flute). Participants will then be invited to play and create music together.
In 2002 Moloi joined the band called Soweto Percussion Ensemble, which was founded by great musicians and drummers like Gugu Ngwenya, Tlale Makhene and Thebe Lipere. Moloi played tin tin , dun dun and marimbas in the band. He has since joined many African music bands playing in and around the country with bands: Mabone, Ingoma Yase Africa and more.
He’s also very fond of teaching music and indigenous instruments and has since worked in institutions like Funda Center, Dlamini school of music, and currently works teaching traditional instruments at Morris Issacson School of Music working with greats like Zanele Ndlovu and Mabeleng Moholo.
