The Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria (Javett-UP) has partnered with the University of Pretoria Campus tours (UPCT) for virtual and physical training of students in museum education particularly in the Javett-UP.
Six of the UPCT guides have been training since the 31st of August 2020 with Puleng Plessie (Javett-UP Education Officer). Even though this was during level 3 the national lockdown, UPCT guides proved to be interactive and engaged with topics such as: unpacking the 101 Collecting Conversations: Signature Works of a Century exhibition; dialogical pedagogy in museum education; and providing information about the Javett-UP and how it connects to UP.
As a practical component of the physical training, as well as getting our audiences back to the Javett-UP, we have decided to have Half Price Friday which allows for our audiences to be part of the experience. The UPCT guides will obtain an attendance certificate at the end of their training and be a certified Javett-UP facilitator.
