Join the artists and the curatorial team for a conversation with astronomers from the Department of Astronomy at the University of Geneva, Switzerland and the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO). The conversation reflects on both Tebogo George Mahashe and Vanessa Lorenzo’s experiences at both institutions through the artists-in-labs South African - Swiss Residency Exchange.
We will have a discussion about art and science as sites of knowledge production. The forum will address the entanglement of both the disciplines and the possibility for collaboration and exchange. The conversation will engage astronomy, as well as historical and contemporary practices of observation within diverse cultural settings.
The Art-Science Conversations is part of the public programme of the exhibition INTERFACING NEW HEAVENS - a collaboration between the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria and the artists-in-labs program of Zurich University of the Arts.
INTERFACING NEW HEAVENS is supported by the Swiss Arts Council and the Embassy of Switzerland in Pretoria.
