African Association of Visitor Experiences and Attractions

Javett-UP is proud to host the African Association of Visitor Experiences and Attractions (AAVEA) Gauteng Regional Meet-UP in June. Gauteng tourism leaders will gather at Javett-UP to discuss some of the latest developments in attraction management and unpack critical findings of the 2021 AAVEA Benchmark survey by Sabine Lehmann. This event affirms Javett-UP's goal to become a key stakeholder in the Tshwane tourism landscape.
African Association of Visitor Experiences and Attractions (AAVEA)
A first for the continent, the African Association of Visitor Experiences and Attractions (AAVEA) is a membership-driven association, governed by a board of experienced industry professionals, which offers the only educational opportunities for visitor experience and attractions professionals in Africa.
While AAVEA began its journey in 2014 as an annual two-day conference for the attractions industry focused on education, training, benchmarking, and networking , it was officially launched as an association in November 2018. Having hosted two virtual conferences during the pandemic, the organization has embarked on a roadshow around the country, taking the educational opportunities to attractions and visitor experiences in their own regions.
In 2021, with the sponsorship of its partner South African Tourism, AAVEA released the first-ever SA attractions benchmark survey results report. Compiled by executive director Sabine Lehmann, the report provided much needed insights into the industry, shining a spotlight on visitor number tracking, operational challenges and more. The next survey will be launched  and released in the later part of 2022.
