The widely celebrated exhibition We, The Purple guest curated by khumo Sebambo has been extended and will officially close on 13 June 2025. Visitors have just one last chance to experience this powerful and thought-provoking showcase before it makes way for a brand-new exhibition launching in July 2025.
Since its opening in September 2024, We, The Purple has not only drawn large audiences but has also received critical acclaim. Media outlets and art critics alike have hailed the exhibition for its bold curatorial vision, compelling narratives, and evocative visual storytelling.
This immersive and reflective exhibition centres itself around Pretoria as it navigates the nation’s young democracy and invites audiences to engage with diverse perspectives and narratives. We, The Purple draws inspiration from Pretoria’s moniker, the “Jacaranda City,” an ode to its iconic Jacaranda trees lining the streets. The exhibition delves deep into the city’s historical and contemporary narratives, including pivotal moments like #FeesMustFall and the 1956 Women’s March. Notably, the exhibition’s title pays homage to the poignant “purple rain protest” of September 1989, echoing the fervour of the anti-apartheid resistance.
Bring your friends, family and colleagues and explore this breath-taking exhibition.
