Invitation: Ga re Itlhatholleng

Published 01 July 2024 in News from Javett-UP

Join us for a deep dive into the creative legacy of Lefifi Tladi with an advanced listening, reading, and writing session at Javett-UP. The workshop is intended to allow us to engage with the living legacy of the artistic practices of Lefifi Tladi and the collective with whom he corresponded through letters and poetry tributes.

Our objective is to sustain the cultural practice of exchange through letter-writing. We will respond to the artworks, letters, and sonics by identifying key calls to action in Lefifi’s letters and the spoken word sonic from “Poetry for the Artvanced Listeners,” and craft fitting responses.

The session will be followed by a live jazz performance, reflecting on the sonic history of Lefifi Tladi. We will be joined by musicians Ntando Ngcapu, Lucas Senyatso, Tshiamo Nkoane.

Made possible with the support of the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS), this event forms part of the public engagement efforts of the ongoing Lefifi Tladi Collection Rescue Project that is focusing on restoring and protecting the extensive body of work created by the veteran artist over five decades.
