The Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria (Javett-UP) is proud to present the winter instalment of Bokamoso Holiday Art Programme happening from 01 to 05 July 2024. Enrolling children between the ages of seven and fifteen years, this educational programme provides an enriching and enjoyable experience which keeps learners focused during their school holidays. Parents can start to register their children by purchasing tickets on Webtickets .

Planned Activities for kids to enjoy:

Day 1 (01 July): Short comic + Reimagined storytelling.

While participating in a walkabout of current exhibitions, learners will draw inspiration from the stories of the different works and spaces to use in their drawings/ comic strips that they will use to narrate a short play. They will then present to their peers in a group activity, to encourage creativity and expression through visual storytelling.

Day 2 (02 July): Treasure hunt + protest poster making

Artwork supplies will be scattered around the galleries and the kids will have to use the clues given to find them as the supplies will be used for the artwork of the day. This activity will encourage curiosity, creativity, and social awareness.

Day 3 (03 July): Landscape painting

Learners will pay homage to their favourite parts of the city of Tshwane. This can be through experiences, locations or anything that makes them appreciate the city. This will be followed by reflections of their work.

Day 4 ( 04 July): Mapungubwe collage workshop

The final day features a short video screening on the history of the kingdom of Mapungubwe. Learners will be guided through a workshop that will introduce them to mixed media collage making, where they will incorporate painting, drawing, and other art forms into their collages to express their representations of Mapungubwe.

Day 5 (05 July): Zine Making workshop

In this hands-on workshop, children will learn the basics of zine creation while exploring their imaginations in a supportive and encouraging environment. Through engaging activities and collaborative exercises, kids will discover the power of storytelling and self-expression.
